Pastor had to address the lack of attendance problem again. For someone who has been in the church as long as I have, this problem really gets on my nerves. We have plenty of members in the Los Angeles area who could pack the building, but for one or more reasons, they don't do it except on rare occasions. I remember the days when Dr. Scott was teaching on Revelation and prophecy -- the Cathedral was packed up into the balcony. Then he started teaching on giving, and the crowds thinned significantly. I surmise we are having the same problems today. Here are some "humanistic" reasons why I believe we have poor attendance from time to time:
1. LA Flakes: If you live in LA you know what I'm talking about. People in this city flake on commitments as a matter of routine. Sorry to overgeneralize, but I've found it to be true.
2. No Church Culture: While the city of Los Angeles has a rich spiritual history, modern day Angelenos really do not. Going to church is not part of their culture (with the exception of the Hispanic populace). My friends are drinking beer, at the beach or watching sports on Sunday. They can't fathom going to church. Quite a bit different from the people in Dallas who go to church as a normal part of their life.
3. Giving Teaching: Whenever Dr. Scott used to teach on Giving, the crowds would thin out. There is a fringe group in our church that loves the intellectual stimulation, but don't want to put their money where their mouth is. The scriptural teaching on Giving is too tough for them, and I believe they're afraid if they open their ears and actually hear the truth of the Giving message, their conscience will get the better of them. So, they hide-out and don't come to church whenever Pastor gets on the subject.
Those are my theories on the poor attendance, I'm sure you have some others....

Pastor Melissa Scott the daughter of Dr. Gene Scott? I'm tired of getting this question, so let me answer it: No! She is not. She was married to Dr. Scott until he passed away. So you fundamentalists and judgmental people you can stop gossipping about what the real story is. Yes there is an age difference, so get over it and get back to listening to the teaching

I'm really glad to see Pastor Scott on Twitter. She was there for such a long time with no communication, I was wondering if she ever would tweet. I'm a big fan of Twitter. I think it's a great vehicle for short bursts of communication, and it really forces one to be concise. As of today she has three tweets. I think Twitter is going to evolve into something fantastic, even though lots of people disagree with me and think Twitter is over-hyped and on it's way out. We'll see, won't we?

Pastor Melissa Scott rammed a proverbial "hot poker" up the backside of the fundamentalists who keep whining that women should not be allowed to speak in the church. Her video series on YouTube, although edited down to short soundbytes is still packed with enough info to silence any
church relic who is still parrotting that tradition. Check it out if you need ammo for the next pea-brain that tells you women have to keep silent. Women In The Church.
